Alaknanda River Expedition

Three days of river and wilderness

Of all the long weekend trips from Delhi , this one is our all-time favourite. Drive far up the river and spend 3 days rafting down it, carrying all of your stuff  in separate cargo rafts (tents, food, cooking equipment, rum etc.) and camping each night on small isolated sandy beaches.

By the end of it you'll be an expert whitewater river pilot.

Sample Itinerary

Day 0: Overnight Delhi to Haridwar.

Leave Delhi at midnight, and drive around 6 hours to Rishikesh.

Overnight in minibus

Day 1: Drive Rishikesh to Bagwan. Get on the river and raft to just below Devprayag. Overnight on isolated sandy beach.

Arrive in Rishikesh early in the morning, change into our rafting clothes, and pop down to the riverside restaurant for a spot of breakfast. Then drive 80km drive to Bagwan (about 3 hours) meet your guides, have a full safety briefing before jumping in your rafts for 2 and a bit hours of relaxed drifting downstream, swimming, body surfing and negotiating a few small rapids to get you warmed up.

Camp over night on the beach

Day 2: Raft to Kaudiyala. Overnight camping out on beach.

Today is a relaxed day with few rapids – a great day for swimming, body surfing, relaxing and spotting wildlife. We have 30 km of river to cover before setting up camp just above Kaudiyala.

Camp over night on the beach

Day 3: Raft from Kaudiyala to Laxman Jhula. Return to Delhi.

Today is an incredible day of practically non-stop whitewater action, carving up the most famous rapids in the region: Daniel’s Dip and The Wall followed by Three Blind Mice, Crossfire, Roller Coaster and Golf Course. Put in just above Laxman Jhula, get changed and drive back to Delhi.

Reach Delhi at around 11pm.... get to bed!
